Flip a card Bingo: A simple game to motivate physical activity

All you need is a paper, a pen and a deck of cards to instantly have more motivation. This simple game that is designed to blend chance with some control over the win..

There is a lot of be said about the power of games.

Together we will be unlocking the hidden secret power of games to draw a crowd of engaged seniors together for some fun.  Each week, Thursday I’ll be sharing a little more about what I learn about intriguing games, especially Bingo!.

Last week’s thought: What happens when we acknowledge our residents attendance at all our events with a bingo mark? Would this small thing make a big difference getting folks out of their rooms and into our programs.

This week we kick the game up a notch with an element of chance while at the same time taking control of our win and investing in the game.

Here is how it works. Each time a resident attends an event they a flip one card from face down deck, gaining a red or black marker. the resident can place the red or black marker anywhere they want on their bingo board. The object of this game is to make a row of the same color marker.

If you run events for seniors, here are the steps to get this game going at your location.

1) Print out and post the Winner! posters everywhere

2) Print out a bingo card for each resident and put the name on the cards. Carry these in a folder with you.

3) When a resident attends an event, have them pick a card from the deck and then mark their card with a red or black check in one square of their choice.

4)Award a prize to residents who make a row of one color.

You can see this is a simpler Bingo than the one the residents are used to, and each week will be playing with little modifications to make it appeal to a wider audience, while always being a simple game to play.
